CHICAGO – February 13, 2012 — 98.7WFMT, Chicago’s Classical Experience, today announced a special partnership with the Cultural Service of the Consulate General of France in Chicago, in celebration of the sesquicentennial of French composer Claude Debussy. Special programming of “Debussy 2012” will be presented on 98.7 WFMT and throughout the world in simulcast on WFMT’s web stream at on Wednesday, February 22 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, CST, the same day of the opening of the anniversary exhibition in Paris at the Musée de l’Orangerie. “Debussy, la musique et les arts” ( will be on view until June 11.

A special 2-hour documentary, “Claude Debussy: Visionary Revolutionary” will air in its entirety on Friday, February 17th at 8:00pm, CST on 98.7 WFMT and at Additional excerpts of the 2-hour documentary featuring noted French Debussy authority Denis Herlin and Jon Tolansky, WFMT Radio Network producer, will air in February culminating in this special broadcast on February 22. Director at the Institut de Recherche sur le patrimoine musical français and President of the French society of musicology since 2009, Herlin is the co-editor of the first complete edition of Debussy’s letters at Gallimard. He will be live in the WFMT studio to discuss the creativity of the author of La Mer and Pelleas and Melisande, and to present the world premiere of a newly discovered composition by Debussy.

Thanks to the support of many, Denis Herlin is traveling this month from Paris to North America on a four-city tour to honor Claude Debussy’s legacy. In addition to Chicago, Herlin will appear in Cleveland, Montreal and Rochester to present lectures and interviews on Debussy’s music and its influence over the past 150 years.
