The Tournées Festival Grant was conceived as a program to encourage schools to begin their own self-sustaining French film festivals. Since its inception, the program has partnered with hundreds of universities and made it possible for tens of thousands of students to discover French-language films.. The Tournées Festival selection is made of the best films released in France in the past year, some of which have not yet been shown in U.S. theaters. International residence at COUVENT DES RECOLLETS for foreign writers ans artists

The City of Paris and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs offer foreign artists a resident's programme at the Récollets International Accommodation and Exchange Centre, a prestigious building inaugurated in 2003, on the banks of Saint Martin Canal, in the heart of Paris, to foreign artists specialized in any discipline. This programme is targeted to confirmed writers and artists who will be selected by a board of examiners on the basis of a project they would like to develop in Paris during their stay. This project can be carried out at the invitation of a Paris art institution within the framework of a programme of cultural cooperation or as a personal artistic research approach.
The winners are hosted in one of the 6 studios, for a 3 months period. At the end of their stay, the artists must write a report on their stay.

Discipline: Visual arts, performing arts, literature.
Lenght of stay: 3 months.
Conditions of stay: Winners will be accommodated in a studio put at their disposal by the City of Paris at the Récollets International Exchange and Accommodation Centre; 150-154 rue du Faubourg Saint Martin – 75010 Paris. The Department of Cultural Affairs will help the selected artists to make the necessary steps in Paris and foster contacts with Paris cultural institutions.

Le cinquantenaire de l’IHES célébré à l’Université de Chicago

Le 11 Avril 2008, l’Université de Chicago représentée par son président Robert Zimmer et par le doyen du département de physique et de mathématiques Robert Fefferman, a célébré le cinquantième anniversaire de l’Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques de Bures sur Yvette.

La cérémonie a consisté en plusieurs présentations. L'une de Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, actuel Directeur de l'IHES, retraçant l’histoire de l’institut et d'autres par des mathématiciens de l'Univeristé de Chicago ayant séjourné à l'IHES (Robert Zimmer, Spencer Bloch, Stephen Smale, Kevin Corlette). Cet événement a également été l’occasion de rappeler les grands mathématiciens dont le nom est associé à l’IHES: Laurent Schwartz, René Thom, Pierre Deligne, Alexandre Grothendieck, Maxim Kontsevich, Alain Connes, Laurent Lafforgue, Mikhael Gromov, ….

Une exposition "Les déchiffreurs" composée de magnifiques photographies de mathématiciens au travail à l'IHES était installée dans la salle de réception.

Au-delà de la relation privilégiée avec l'IHES, cet événement reflète bien le partenariat exceptionnel qui lie la prestigieuse université de Chicago et la France dans le domaine scientifique. Le Fonds France-Chicago (http://fcc.uchicago.edu) est un remarquable outil pour cette coopération.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration of the IHES at the University of Chicago

On 11 April 2008, the University of Chicago celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques de Bures sur Yvette (IHES). Participating in the ceremony were University President Robert Zimmer and Dean of the Physical Sciences and distinguished mathematics professor, Robert Fefferman.

There were several presentations during the ceremony, including one by the current IHES director, Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, which traced the history of the institute as well as the University of Chicago mathematicians who spent time there (including Robert Zimmer, Spencer Bloch, Stephen Smale, and Kevin Corlette). The event also took time to note other great mathematicians whose names have been associated with the IHES: Laurent Schwartz, René Thom, Pierre Deligne, Alexandre Grothendieck, Maxim Kontsevich, Alain Connes, Laurent Lafforgue, Mikhael Gromov, and many others.

Located in the reception room was a magnificent exhibition of photographs entitled “Les Déchiffreurs” showing a number of mathematicians at work at IHES.

The event went beyond showcasing the privileged relationship the university has with the IHES to highlight the exceptional partnership that exists between the University of Chicago and France in the scientific domain.The France Chicago Center (http://fcc.uchicago.edu) has been instrumental in developing this cooperation.

Le volontariat scientifique chercheur
Mis en place par le gouvernement français, le VOLONTARIAT INTERNATIONAL permet aux jeunes filles et garçons, de moins de 29 ans, français ou ressortissants de l’espace économique européen d’effectuer un travail de recherche à l’étranger, sous la tutelle du ministère des Affaires étrangères français et des services de l’ambassade de France.

Candidats concernés : Les étudiants en stage de fin d’études, DEA, thèse, PHD... et les jeunes diplômés. Ils s’inscrivent sur le site du Centre d’Information sur le Volontariat International "CIVI" (www.civiweb.com) avant leur 28ème anniversaire et peuvent ainsi répondre aux offres proposées par votre université et publiées par le ministère des Affaires étrangères français.

Aujourd’hui plus de 4 000 candidats se déclarent intéressés par une mission de recherche en laboratoire.
Structure d’accueil : La structure d’accueil est obligatoirement un laboratoire d’université, un centre de recherche, une association ou un institut public. Les établissements privés sont exclus de cette procédure.

International Volunteer Scientists
Established by the French government, the International Volunteer Corps enables young men and women to conduct research work abroad under the auspices of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Embassy. Volunteers must be under 29 years of age, either French or other nationality within the European Economic area (EEA).

Elligible applicants: Candidates must have been awarded a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. or be in their final year before graduation. They should sign up at www.civiweb.com, the website of the Centre d’Information sur le Volontariat International - CIVI (International Volunteer Corps Information Center) before their 28th birthday to be eligible for openings in US institutions which are posted by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Today, more than 4,000 applicants have shown interest in conducting laboratory research.

Host Institution : The host institution must be a university laboratory, research center, or a public institute. Private institutions are not eligible.
Duration of the mission : The duration is flexible, ranging from six months to two years, renewable once with a two-year limit. More information
