2011 : ANNEE INTERNATIONALE DE LA CHIMIE (A.I.C.)
L’Assemblée générale des Nations unies a proclamé 2011 Année internationale de la chimie. Les grands objectifs de l’A.I.C. sont de « valoriser la compréhension par le grand public de la façon dont la chimie peut répondre aux besoins mondiaux, encourager l’engouement des jeunes pour la chimie, célébrer la contribution des femmes à la chimie », etc. La cérémonie officielle d’ouverture s’est déroulée au siège de l’Unesco à Paris les 27 et 28 janvier 2011 où Valérie Pécresse est intervenue. Une des premières manifestations de l’A.I.C., « Des chimistes s’invitent au lycée », est organisée par le C.N.R.S., avec le soutien des rectorats. Du 31 janvier au 5 février, des chimistes des laboratoires du C.N.R.S. se rendront dans les lycées pour y donner des conférences et présenter les différents métiers associés à la recherche en chimie.

LES CELEBRATIONS NATIONALES 2011
Chaque année, les personnalités et les événements qui ont marqué l’histoire économique, sociale et culturelle de la France sont commémorés à l’occasion de leur cinquantenaire, de leur centenaire et de leurs multiples. De nombreuses personnalités politiques, artistiques ou scientifiques seront à l’honneur en 2011 : des figures royales majeures comme Clovis ou Louis XIV côtoyant des hommes de lettres comme Nicolas Boileau, Blaise Cendrars ou Théophile Gautier, des compositeurs virtuoses avec Franz Liszt, de grands scientifiques comme Marie Curie, des pionniers du cinéma comme Georges Méliès et des figures de la bande dessinée, avec notamment l'anniversaire de la publication du premier album des Aventures d'Astérix , sans oublier Bougainville dans le cadre de l’année des Outre-mer. Claude Garamont célèbre typographe de la Renaissance, disparu il y a 450 ans, fera l’objet du site Internet que la mission aux Célébrations nationales réalise chaque année en collaboration avec le Département de la recherche, de l’enseignement supérieur et de la technologie, pour mettre à l’honneur une des personnalités célébrées.

CAMPUS D'ETE "AGRI-CULTURES" A MONTPELLIER SUPAGRO, CENTRE INTERNATIONAL D'ETUDES SUPERIEURES EN SCIENCES AGRONOMIQUES
Montpellier Supagro a mis en place, depuis 2010, un campus d’été axé sur le Français Langue Etrangère, la découverte de l’agriculture régionale et un séminaire international.

L’objectif est d’offrir aux étudiants étrangers souhaitant participer des bases de compréhension de l’agriculture régionale, des ressources scientifiques du pôle montpelliérain ainsi qu’une formation intensive en langue française.
Organisé en trois phases qui s’échelonnent de juillet à septembre, le programme du campus d’été « agri-cultures » se décompose de la manière suivante :
- Le mois de juillet est consacré à des cours intensifs de Français Langue Etrangère, avec un accent mis sur le français scientifique et agronomique ainsi que sur des visites de terrain.
- Chaque étudiant étranger a ensuite la possibilité d’effectuer, au mois d’août, un stage dans une exploitation agricole de la région.
- Le mois de septembre est tourné, quant à lui, vers le séminaire européen ainsi que les restitutions des stages effectuées par les étudiants. En savoir plus

SKEMA BUSINESS SCHOOL LANCE UN CONCOURS D'ENTREE INTERNATIONAL POUR LE PROGRAMME GRANDE ECOLE
Inauguré en Février 2011, le World Admission Process (WAP) mis en place par SKEMA s’adresse aux étudiants étrangers pouvant justifier d’un diplôme d’études secondaires et de deux ou trois ans d’études supérieures et souhaitant intégrer le Programme Grande Ecole que propose l’établissement issu de la fusion entre le CERAM et l’ESC Lille. |

Ce nouveau processus d’admission international permet aux étudiants étrangers de rejoindre l’école à deux niveaux : le niveau L3 tout d’abord, qui correspond à la première année de Grande Ecole, ou le niveau Master 1.
L’entrée en niveau L3 ou première année de Grande Ecole s’effectue au travers de l’examen d’entrée WAP 1 et s’adresse aux étudiants titulaires d’un diplôme d’études secondaires ayant d’ores et déjà deux ans d’études supérieures derrière eux. Les candidats à l’entrée via le concours WAP 1 doivent maitriser le Français et ne pas avoir plus de 26 ans. L’entrée en niveau M1 via le concours WAP 2 s’adresse aux titulaires d’un Bachelor en trois ans obtenu après au moins deux années d’études effectuées hors de France. Les candidats ne doivent pas être âgés de plus de 27 ans et doivent être originaires de Chine, des Etats-Unis ou de l’Union européenne (hors France). |
Les examens d’entrée WAP 1 et 2 comprennent un dossier de candidature en anglais à remplir en ligne, la communication des résultats obtenus par le candidat au GMAT et le passage d’un entretien de motivation en anglais ou en français. Leur tarif s’élève à 110 euros en 2011.
La réussite d’un de ces examens donne accès au Programme Grande Ecole de SKEMA business school et donc à plusieurs campus dont trois sont situés en France, un au Maroc, un en Chine et un aux Etats-Unis. |

ENJOY FRENCH WINE WHILE LEARNING FRENCH
Another original concept to learn French while discovering French culture and traditions, the Summer program “Wine and French language” at the University of Burgundy in France, from July the 3rd to July the 15th.
This two-week English taught program offers a multidisciplinary approach of wine and its culture in France and in particular in Burgundy. Wine tasting sessions along with visits of wineries will alternate throughout the program. French language will be taught every morning and will be organized as a function of participant level (from the beginner to the regular speaker). FRENCH HIGHER EDUCATION EXCELLENCE
"On the path towards excellence" by Jane Marshall, University World News
French universities are on the path towards excellence as they become more and more autonomous, since the Universities’ Freedoms and Responsibilities law was enacted in 2007.
This is what Jane Marshall is giving us a glance of, in her article based on the 600-page report produced by the AERES – the French Assessment Agency of Higher Education -. This report was created from evaluations carried out by thousands of French and international experts during four years.
From 2007 to 2010, French universities have blossomed. About 90% of them are now autonomous and have undergone great transformations. Partnerships between universities and other institutions such as, for instance, the internationally renowned “grandes écoles”, are thriving. The newly formed higher education clusters, known as PRES, are now equipped with state of the art scientific technologies and have achieved the critical mass necessary to become leading research centers.
A government multi-billion euro programme called “Operation Campus” has just been launched to propel a dozen universities to the head of international rankings. This impetus has no sign of slowing down anytime soon...

Created as a response to the curtailment of French programs across the country, the kit consists of a video and an extensive set of resource documents. CHICAGO: ENTREPRISES ET UNIVERSITES SE MOBILISENT SUR DES PROGRAMMES PREISCOLAIRES POUR REDONNER AUX ELEVES LE GOUT POUR LES SCIENCES ET TECHNOLOGIES
La ville de Chicago a une fois de plus été choisie pour la mise en place d’un projet innovant en matière de sciences et technologies. Une initiative proposée par l’entrepreneur James Dyson vise à remobiliser, en dehors de la structure scolaire, les jeunes pour les matières scientifiques. Le district scolaire de Chicago constitue un terrain idéal pour tester ce nouveau programme aux Etats-Unis. Cette mobilisation pour ce type de programme en marge de l’enseignement traditionnel, s’explique par le faible niveau en sciences des étudiants de Chicago, comme en témoigne les résultats divulgués dans un récent rapport sur les performances scolaires des étudiants américains.
Constat : les faibles résultats scientifiques des jeunes de Chicago
Ce rapport national nous montre qu’il existe une nette séparation nord/sud an ce qui concerne le niveau en science. En effet, les états du nord enregistrent des résultats supérieurs à la moyenne nationale de 149 sur une échelle de 300 points, contrairement à ceux du sud, pour lesquels les scores des étudiants sont inférieurs à celle-ci. Dans ce paysage, l’état de l’Illinois, à la différence de la grande majorité des états du nord, a enregistré des scores inférieurs pour les disciplines scientifiques. Pour la ville de Chicago en particulier, ces scores étaient inférieurs d’environ 20 points à la moyenne nationale...

NUTRITION - SANTE : LA MISSION POUR LA SCIENCE & LA TECHNOLOGIE DU CONSULAT AIGUILLE LES POLES DE COMPETITIVITE FRANCAIS
Programme de la Mission
Du 6 au 10 juin prochain, la Mission pour la Science et la Technologie de Chicago, en collaboration avec UbiFrance, a réalisée le montage d’une mission exploratoire dans la région de Chicago et de Boston pour une délégation d’industriels et de scientifiques français. La thématique des rencontres programmées est la Nutrition/Santé avec un volet ciblé sur la nutrition et le vieillissement. Une dizaine de représentants du pôle de compétitivité pilote Vitagora, basé en Bourgogne et Franche-Comté, du pôle Agrimip situé en Midi-Pyrénées et du pôle Valorial localisé en Bretagne, seront mobilisés dans le but de créer de nouveaux partenariats avec des chercheurs et industriels du Midwest, principalement. L’accent sera porté sur les thématiques des nouveaux ingrédients fonctionnels à allégation santé, les nutraceutiques et autres innovations en formulation de composés diététiques.
