In honor of Bastille Day, FACC-Chicago and Alliance Française members are invited to this special luncheon from 12-Noon to 2 PM at La Cigale in the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower

14 JUILLET: CRITERIUM ET LA KERMESSE DE LA FETE NATIONALE

Cette année, le 14 juillet ne sera pas une date comme toutes les autres à Chicago. Venez passer une soirée à la française pour le Critérium et la Kermesse de la Fête Nationale !

Musique de France, sandwiches et crêpes typiques, jeux de boules, stands divers, courses commentées en Français… le tout suivi du feu d’artifice de Navy Pier à 21h30 tout près. Joignez-vous à nous au parking sud de Soldier Field de 16h jusqu’à 21 heures pour un petit gout de France pour commémorer la prise de la Bastille ! L’entrée est gratuite.
Championnat cycliste de France open de Chicago. Alors que certaines des courses cyclistes sont ouvertes uniquement aux coureurs de haut niveau, le critérium à des courses de niveau 4/5 ouvertes à tous. Des prix seront décernés aux meilleurs français. Pour participer, il suffira de vous inscrire à l’avance et le jour de la course présenter une pièce d’identité française (passeport, carte d’identité, carte d’immatriculation consulaire). Chicago's most popular summer weekday running event is on the move in 2010! After nearly three decades of being held on Thursday evenings in the West Loop, Chicago's 29th annual Bastille Day 5K Run, Walk & Block Party is relocating to Lincoln Park on a Wednesday night.
The event celebrates the French national holiday (officially July 14). Following the run/walk, participants can enjoy a block party with food, refreshments and can can dancers at the nearby Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. (Admission to the block party only is $5.) Proceeds will again benefit Chicago's Mercy Home for Boys & Girls.

BASTILLE DAY BARBECUE

The Alliance Française of Indianapolis invites you to a midsummer barbecue to celebrate Bastille Day. Join us at Lilly Lake Shelter in Eagle Creek Park, Sunday, July 11 Noon to 4:00pm
Bring a favorite appetizer, salad or dessert to share, a ball or a Frisbee, a game or a lawn chair, we will supply the rest including hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burger and pétanque! Note that the park does not allow alcohol. The shelter is located near the 71st street entrance and requires a $5 fee to enter. Carpooling is encouraged. Follow the signs to Lilly Lake Drive. The annual Des Moines Alliance Française Bastille Day Picnic will be held on Wednesday, July 14, at Greenwood Park in Des Moines (it's west of the Art Center.)  The picnic will begin around 5:30.  Please bring your own table service, a dish to share, and something to drink. (Wine is OK.) There will be a cooking contest, so prepare your best French dish!

Faire la fête with the Alliance Française of Minneapolis - St. Paul

The University Club is preparing a traditional French dinner and a buffet to appeal to the Gallic palate. Renowned chanteuse Francine Roche will be accompanied by the French Cabaret Orchestra. The Citroën Club of Minnesota will feature its vintage French cars and the Minneapolis Pétanque Club will play the popular French ball game. Activities for children include face painting, storytelling and an enactment of the attack on the Bastille, a castle-like prison that symbolized the worst aspects of monarchical rule.

Celebrate La Fête Nationale at an annual dinner hosted by Aliance Française, La Société Française de Saint Louis and the Saint Louis-Lyon Sister Cities organizations.
This year we will gather at the historic Whittemore House - 6440 Forsyth Boulevard across from Washington University. Celebrating 21 years of Friendship with our Sister City, Downtown Montgomery (between Remington and Cooper Roads)
on July 17 from noon to 11 pm

With the attitude and the artistic flair this traditional Montgomery Celebration will open for a day long mingling of fun, food, drinks and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy! Area restaurants will feature a variety of French cuisine and wine to honor our friendship with sister city Neuilly-Plaisance as well as the local favorites: ribs, pizza, brats, burgers, cheesecake and ice cream.

Entertainment is speckled with talent of all sorts and the sounds to keep you moving. The mainstage will be TOTALLY RAD with the beats of the 80’s from Rusty Griswolds and Motown sounds of the Mistics on the north stage. Also, Ridge Runners will countrify the dinner crowd and Sycamore Community Band will start of the event with the national anthem of both the USA and France. In the street café area guests can enjoy raffles, strolling artists, musicians and singers. The kids area is alive with games of luck, artistic projects, face painting, clowns and a moonwalk. SATURDAY, JULY 10: EVENING IN PARIS - UNE SOIREE FRANCAISE
The Cathedral of St, John the Evangelist will host “An Evening in Paris, Une Soirée Française” a French Dinner celebration, during the Bastille Days Festival, Saturday, July 10th at 7PM.
The five-course dinner will be prepared by the great chefs of the Pfister hotel, under the design of Master Chef Robert Ash. During the meal, a selection of fine French Wines will be served and authentic French Music will be performed. Cash Bar will also be available. Preceding the event will be the traditional French language Mass in the Cathedral at 5:15 PM and a pre-dinner cocktail reception in the Atrium Garden at 6:30 PM.

Proceeds of the French Dinner support the mission and all ministries of the Cathedral Parish, including Fine Arts programming, Human Concerns ministries and the preservation of the historic Cathedral buildings. Did you know Bastille Days in Milwaukee is the largest Bastille Days celebration in the United States?

Located on Cathedral Square in downtown Milwaukee, it is also one of the few free street festivals in the city! 
The event is known for the impromptu street performers, roaming minstrels, a variety of interactive and musical entertainment, and the signature 43-foot Eiffel Tower replica.


Alliance Française has a new look !
Our new Alliance Française Tent this year is located on Jackson Street in front of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist with an expanded menu; seating area with a Parisian Café ambiance. Festival-goers will feel as if they are in France at the AF Tent thanks to our Parisian Café-style seating area where around-the-clock staff of bilingual greeters will welcome visitors who want to talk and learn about francophone activities around Milwaukee.










Beignets, Café au lait and more!
AF beignets and sweet hot fritters, made at the AF Tent have become a true Bastille Days tradition. In fact, Bastille Days visitors gobble them up as fast as we can make them! True beignet connoisseurs insist on pairing this pièce de résistance with our New Orleans-style café au lait. A match made in heaven! Our menu has expanded this year to include Salade Niçoise, Plateau de Fromage (cheese plate), a variety of sandwiches – all prepared by Larry’s Brown Deer Market, as well as Café glacé (iced coffee)!

Highlights!
Fun French activities will take place at the AF tent during the four days of the festival including:


- The Consul General of France in Chicago, M. Graham Paul, will inaugurate the festival and will be honoring us with a special visit at 12pm on Thursday to meet with Dr. Martine Meyer, who is being honored for her many years of dedication to teaching French by a reunion of past students.

- Kids Day:
with a special Petit Déj (kids breakfast for $3), and many kids activities (cooking, ballet, art, and much more!)

- Pétanque (French lawn bowling) demonstration & tournament: Saturday, July 10, 1 - 3 PM- Bike to Bastille Days. Sunday is “Bike to Bastille Days”, so come with your bike! David Harney will give a presentation on organizing a bike trip to France for anyone who has ever biked in France or has considered biking in France from 12 to 2pm!Free

French mini lessons
Simple French mini-lessons at the Gruber (Kilbourn East) Stage given by Alliance Française teachers three times daily (the exact schedule is available on the Bastille Days program). Stop by and learn some French for free!

Learn the French History of Milwaukee
Saturday and Sunday from 10:30-11:00am, free lectures on the French history of Milwaukee. Stop by and learn, for example, which Milwaukee monuments are French.

Raffle

This year’s raffle will give you a chance to win a Whirlwind bicycle from Cory the Bike Fixer, Tour de France jerseys, an autographed pair of Milwaukee Buck Luc Richard Mbah a Moute’s shoes, gift certificates to Milwaukee’s finest restaurants as well as plenty of other awesome prizes!
