BASTILLE DAY CELEBRATION IN CHICAGO
French organizations of Chicago are taking over the Daley Plaza on July 14th from 5:00-10:00pm to celebrate France’s National Holiday (Bastille Day)! Highlights of the event include Live French music, French food, entertainment and refreshments.
NOT TO BE MISSED! Grand Raffle featuring exciting prizes. Tickets will be on sale on July 14th as well as online starting mid-June at http://bastilledaychicago.org/

Hélène Conway nommée Ministre déléguée chargée des Français de l’étranger
Madame Hélène Conway a été nommée jeudi 21 juin 2012 Ministre déléguée chargée des Français de l’étranger en remplacement de Yamina Benguigui, qui reste elle à la Francophonie. Hélène Conway avait été élue Sénatrice des Français de l'étranger le 25 septembre 2011.

JULY 16-17: FRENCH AMBASSADOR FRANCOIS DELATTRE IN CHICAGO
French Ambassador to the Unitesd States, François Delattre, will be in Chicago on July 16-17 on the occasion of the launching of a French audio-guide at the Art Institute of Chicago. Ambassador Delattre will also present the insigna of Officier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres to Mr. Douglas Druick, Director of the Art Institute of Chicago. |
| SYLVAIN BELLENGER APPOINTED SEARLE CHAIR AND CURATOR OF DEPARTMENT OF MEDIEVAL THROUGH MODERN EUROPEAN PAINTING AND SCULPTURE |
The Art Institute of Chicago is pleased to announce the appointment of Sylvain Bellenger as the Searle Chair and Curator of the museum's Department of Medieval through Modern European Painting and Sculpture starting on October 1, 2012.The Department of Medieval through Modern European Painting and Sculpture is the largest of the Art Institute's 11 curatorial groups, with a collection that includes the museum's renowned holdings of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works; modern European masters and earlier paintings. Bellenger is currently Chief Curator of National Heritage at the Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art in Paris.

FOREIGN MINISTRY LAUNCHES TRAVEL ADVISORY TWITTER ACCOUNT
Summer vacationers have a new resource from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs—a Twitter account to advise the public on travel safety abroad. The Quai d’Orsay launched a Twitter version of their Conseils aux Voyageurs (“Advice to Travelers”) website, which already receives over half a million visitors per month. https://twitter.com/#!/ConseilsVoyages |

FRANCE HONORS FORMER U.S REP. FROM MINNESOTA JIM OBERSTAR
On June 19, François Delattre, Ambassador of France to the United States, bestowed the insignia of Commander in the National Order of Merit upon former U.S. Representative from Minnesota James Oberstar. Based on a decision by the French President, this appointment illustrates France’s profound gratitude for Rep. Oberstar’s exemplary commitment to French-American relations, and acknowledges in particular his role in establishing the Congressional French Caucus. Complete information. |

JIMMY ROBERT VIS-A-VIS
August 25 to November 25, 2012
Jimmy Robert Vis-à-vis is the first major solo museum exhibition in the United States of work by French artist Jimmy Robert. Born in Guadeloupe, an overseas region of France, Robert looks to cultural figures of the recent past—avant-garde writers, filmmakers, visual artists—who were not only pioneers in their respective art forms but who were also deft at subtly registering the traumas and effects of their social conditions. Supported by the Institut Français.
