Chicago (IL), le 21 juin 2011. Discours prononcé par le Consul général à l’occasion de la fête de la musique - "Make Music Chicago".

Chicago (IL), June 21, 2011. Speech given by the Consul General of France on the occasion of the first-ever Make Music Chicago.

We are celebrating today the first edition of Make Music Chicago, an all-day music festival throughout the city inspired by the “fête de la musique”, created in France 30 years ago to promote all different kind of music. The first day of summer is now celebrated in music in 110 countries and 460 cities around the world.

Playing on words “faites de la musique, fête de la musique » (make music and celebrate music), the vision underpinning la “fête de la musique” is to make music accessible to all outside of the concert halls for free and encourage the notion that everyone can make music.

Because we are in Chicago, this first celebration is already a major event, thanks to many dedicated and enthusiastic musicians, professionals and amateurs, partners and volunteers.

We are starting today a new Chicago tradition.

So stay tuned and join us tonight at Saint James Cathedral for the Grand Finale.
